From 18 to 22 November 2024, Cape Town hosted LPG Week, a global landmark event for the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) industry.
This year’s theme, “Energy For All”, highlighted the energy inequalities that still affect many regions of the world, where millions of people are forced to rely on polluting sources such as coal, further driving global CO2 emissions.
Among the topics addressed during the event—such as the need to monitor gas levels in domestic and industrial tanks and the optimisation of distribution—the spotlight was on the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance both efficiency and safety in operations.
For example, the Brazilian giant Copa Energia showed how AI has been used to automate the management of gas cylinder weights, improving operational accuracy from 90% to 98% and optimising workforce deployment.
This innovation not only reduces human error but also fosters a more sustainable and competitive approach within the industry.
As Aton, we received very positive feedback on the solutions presented.
Our technologies – from AI-driven telemetry for the collection and interpretation of consumption data, to van selling, maintenance portals and asset traceability – were highly appreciated for the tangible contribution they bring to digitalisation and the smart management of resources.
These tools have been recognised as crucial elements in helping companies in the sector face rapid change and improve the sustainability of their operations.
LPG Week highlighted the importance of collective commitment to ensure clean and affordable energy for all communities, particularly those in disadvantaged regions. The innovations presented in Cape Town represent a significant step forward towards this objective, combining advanced technologies with sustainable strategies.
Our future goal is to consolidate our international presence, strengthening relationships with the clients we met during the event and actively contributing to the transformation of the global energy sector.
