When I think about Aton’s evolution in recent years, it’s clear to me how much stronger our ambition has become to establish ourselves as a point of reference for retailers.
Retail, by its very nature, is a dynamic world: every day stores have to coordinate multiple technology providers to manage checkout operations, payment systems, back-office processes, mobile computing, promotion management and omnichannel integration. All of this creates growing complexity, fragmented processes and operational costs that are increasingly difficult to control.
This growing complexity is, at its core, the result of technology fragmentation, and this is exactly why, at Aton, we are committed to redefining industry standards, in a sector that urgently needs integrated solutions.
It is this vision that led to our joint venture with GTN: a new entity built on the combined value of our shared strengths, created to offer the market a complete technology ecosystem, with deep expertise in retail digitalisation and a strong capacity for investment in research and development.
It is far more than a strategic move: it reflects a shared view of business culture and the future of retail, grounded in common values of innovation, sustainability and customer focus. In many ways, it is a technology hub dedicated to the digitalisation of retail operations and product traceability, where experience and specialist expertise come together to create greater value.
Aton and GTN complement each other’s offering and teams.
On our side, we bring a comprehensive range of digital solutions for industry and distribution, supported by an ambitious roadmap for new software products designed to accelerate the sector’s digital transformation.
On the other hand, we can rely on 385 direct employees and a turnover of 33 million euros — a scale that enables us to guarantee solidity, specialist expertise and strong investment capacity.
What’s more, this close synergy finally allows us to bridge a clear gap in the market: giving retailers a single point of reference for adopting the most advanced and innovative solutions.
Today, our offering is truly distinctive and enhanced by AI: it includes advanced checkout systems, intelligent back-office solutions, digital signage, and mobile and omnichannel platforms designed to serve customers better and strengthen their relationship with the brand.
Our union with GTN has the potential to give retail businesses a genuine competitive advantage.
We have a great deal in common with GTN: we share a long track record of success, we are both established players in the market, and our business model is rooted in deep expertise in digital technologies for sales.
Software, consultancy services and continuous investment in R&D have driven Aton’s growth towards a recognised specialisation in mobile and distributed computing. With the .one platform, we are reshaping market standards, offering solutions based on AI, cloud and edge computing, RFID and mobile computing. This journey earned us a place this year among the 12 “Imprese Vincenti” selected by INNOVIT and Intesa Sanpaolo, and gave us the opportunity to bring our technology to the global epicentre of innovation — Silicon Valley.
For its part, the Friuli-based company GTN, has developed solid expertise in software, hardware and the services that support entire retail chains, with a particular focus on checkout systems and the technologies that improve efficiency in hospitality and other commercial sectors.
For us, the collaboration with GTN marks a decisive step in the strategic path we began in recent years, strengthened by the acquisition of Teksmar — the first company to make a concrete contribution to the development of our new technology ecosystem.
The partnership with GTN shows that it is entirely possible to do business together as if we were a single company. We have created a cohesive group without the need for shareholding structures, built instead on solid foundations: mutual respect, a shared culture, a clear and ambitious vision, and well-defined objectives that steer us in the same direction.
Together with GTN we are looking beyond national borders. We share the ambition to grow by welcoming complementary organisations, with the strategic aim of bringing expertise and perspectives together in a single network capable of delivering valuable solutions to our customers — and enabling us to “become champions of the market”, to use Paola Geretti‘s own words, the CEO of GTN.
