We<\/span> attended<\/span> Liquid Gas Week<\/strong>, the international LPG <\/span>industry<\/span> event, <\/span>held<\/span> this<\/span> year<\/span> from 12 to 15 October <\/span>at<\/span> the Istanbul Congress Center. More <\/span>than<\/span> 200 <\/span>industry<\/span> players <\/span>were<\/span> there<\/span>, <\/span>many<\/span> represented<\/span> by <\/span>their<\/span> senior leaders, <\/span>which<\/span> makes <\/span>it<\/span> the place to be for <\/span>anyone<\/span> working in <\/span>liquid<\/span> gas.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Resilience in a Changing World<\/b><\/h2>\n

This year\u2019s theme was resilience, at a time of real uncertainty. The focus was on the industry\u2019s need, and its ability, to keep delivering reliable energy while supply, prices and regulations keep shifting.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For an LPG distributor, this comes down to everyday decisions: when to send out a tanker, which tank to check, how much product to buy. In uncertain times, each of these decisions weighs more heavily on costs, and mistakes are expensive.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Smart Tank on stage at the Global Technology Conference<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

This<\/span> year<\/span> we<\/span> chose<\/span> to play an <\/span>active<\/span> part in shaping <\/span>change<\/span> by <\/span>contributing<\/span> to the Global Technology Conference, <\/span>where<\/span> we<\/span> presented<\/span> Smart Tank<\/strong>, the <\/span>solution<\/span> developed<\/span> in partnership with<\/span> <\/span>SPINSystem<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Smart Tank helps LPG <\/span>distributors<\/span> optimise<\/span> their<\/span> operations<\/span><\/strong>. With <\/span>continuous<\/span> monitoring of <\/span>both<\/span> the product and the <\/span>condition<\/span> of the tank, refills and <\/span>maintenance<\/span> are <\/span>planned<\/span> on <\/span>real<\/span> data. The <\/span>result<\/span> is<\/span> fewer<\/span> empty<\/span> runs<\/span>, <\/span>fewer<\/span> emergency<\/span> call-<\/span>outs<\/span> and <\/span>lower<\/span> operating<\/span> costs. <\/span>When<\/span> a <\/span>telemetry<\/span> system <\/span>goes<\/span> down, <\/span>many<\/span> companies are <\/span>left<\/span> wondering<\/span> who<\/span> to call: the hardware supplier, the network operator or the software house? Smart Tank <\/strong><\/span>provides<\/span> a single point of <\/span>responsibility<\/span><\/strong> that<\/span> integrates<\/span> hardware and software, <\/span>is<\/span> accountable<\/span> for the <\/span>entire<\/span> system and <\/span>delivers<\/span> the data <\/span>as<\/span> a service. <\/span>Distributors<\/span> are <\/span>then<\/span> free to focus on <\/span>their<\/span> core business, <\/span>which<\/span> is<\/span> getting<\/span> energy to <\/span>their<\/span> customers.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A growing LPG market: the challenge of supply chain management<\/b><\/h2>\n

One trend <\/span>came<\/span> through<\/span> clearly<\/span> over the week: LPG <\/span>is<\/span> being<\/span> used<\/span> in a<\/span> widening<\/span> range of <\/span>applications<\/span>, in <\/span>homes<\/span>, businesses, <\/span>industry<\/span> and <\/span>agriculture<\/span>. <\/span>Several<\/span> sessions <\/span>also<\/span> discussed<\/span> rising<\/span> demand in <\/span>many<\/span> markets, <\/span>particularly<\/span> in Latin America and Africa.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

More <\/span>applications<\/span> and more markets <\/span>mean<\/span> more tanks, more <\/span>cylinders<\/span> and more delivery points to <\/span>manage<\/span>. <\/span>Without<\/span> data <\/span>across<\/span> the supply chain, <\/span>that<\/span> complexity<\/span> turns <\/span>into<\/span> cost. To <\/span>meet<\/span> these<\/span> challenges, <\/span>distributors<\/span> will<\/span> need<\/span> a single <\/span>view<\/span> of the <\/span>entire<\/span> supply chain, from the <\/span>customer\u2019s<\/span> tank to the truck making the delivery. <\/span>This<\/span> is<\/span> the idea <\/span>behind<\/span> our<\/span> work o<\/span>n <\/span>.one for LPG<\/span><\/a> bringing<\/span> together<\/span> in one <\/span>platform<\/span> the data <\/span>that<\/span> today<\/span> sits<\/span> scattered<\/span> across<\/span> different<\/span> systems.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
