A few years ago, I fondly remember taking part in a workshop with PwC<\/a> Italy on the topic of design thinking<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

At that time, Aton was already attentive to user experience\u2013driven design<\/strong>, which involves alternating creative, divergent<\/em> phases with convergent ones, where ideas are rationalised and tested with the client.<\/p>\n

Today, we have a dedicated team<\/strong> focusing on these aspects, and one of my dreams has come true: making the design of new application solutions a systematic process, moving through co-design with our clients and their users.<\/p>\n

What I can reveal is that this approach has allowed us to deliver innovative solutions<\/strong> and avoid costly rework<\/em> in the advanced stages of implementation \u2013 something that often happened when projects were developed starting from a purely textual functional requirements document, without taking user interaction into account.<\/p>\n

We had a chat with Federica<\/a><\/strong>, who leads our UX team<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Where do you start when organising a co-design session?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

To organise a co-design session effectively, it is essential to create a comfortable environment<\/strong> where the various stakeholders feel at ease and ready to contribute their experience to the project.<\/p>\n

It should be a place where the designer<\/strong> plays the crucial role of both guide<\/strong> and interpreter<\/strong> for the different participants who, with their diverse skills and roles, must feel comfortable sharing ideas, pain points, and input for the project design.<\/p>\n

The process begins with a clear agenda of activities<\/strong> to facilitate the timing of the different design phases, and then moves on to hands-on work on a real or virtual workspace,<\/strong> where canvases, post-its, and any other tools that support participants\u2019 expression can be applied.<\/p>\n

Clear communication,<\/strong> asking the right questions<\/strong>, and putting people first<\/strong> are key elements in this stage.<\/p>\n

How to avoid falling into the groupthink trap<\/strong><\/h2>\n

To prevent the working group from becoming static and to ensure that all alternative options are considered, it is good practice to repeat the same questions<\/strong> in different or parallel co-design sessions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It is essential to always encourage all participants to remain critical,<\/strong> and to welcome dissent or challenges to the prevailing opinion.<\/p>\n

How do you get to the UI?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The UI<\/strong> is one of the final parts of the project<\/strong>, and to get there you first need to go through essential steps<\/strong> such as:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Understanding and analysis<\/strong> \u2013 including research, interviews, problem definition, and goal setting<\/li>\n
  • Ideation<\/strong> \u2013 brainstorming,<\/strong> defining personas, scenarios, and journey maps<\/li>\n
  • Decision-making<\/strong> \u2013 structuring the information architecture and designing wireframes<\/li>\n
  • Interface creation and prototyping<\/strong> \u2013 using increasingly powerful tools such as Figma,<\/em> Sketch & Co<\/em> to get closer to the final project<\/li>\n
  • Development and testing<\/strong> \u2013 building the actual functionalities and carrying out invaluable user tests<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    How is the UI tested on users?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    To test the most complex interfaces, we create interactive prototypes<\/strong> that allow us to collect user feedback<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Through listening, observation, and setting up various user tests \u2013 both guided and unguided \u2013 we can identify areas for improvement and the issues encountered by users.<\/p>\n

    In this way, we can move forward with a more effective and efficient definition of the solution, always keeping in mind that a product\u2019s design<\/strong> must be:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • usable<\/li>\n
    • equitable<\/li>\n
    • enjoyable<\/li>\n
    • useful<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      How does the UI become \u201ccode\u201d?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      To turn stakeholders\u2019 dreams into reality, in addition to smart design, you also need an excellent development team.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      With the right methods of sharing and communication, the project can be replicated and made functional using a range of increasingly advanced tools.<\/p>\n

      Constant alignment<\/strong> and a strong connection between the design and development worlds<\/strong> ensure that the product is well-organised and synchronised.<\/p>\n

      What is one of the co-design projects you found most rewarding, and why?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      One of the most recent projects was carried out with a client who asked us to support them through a series of workshops. The goal was to create a next-generation B2B portal solution<\/strong> that you will soon see among our success stories.<\/p>\n

      The opportunity to work collaboratively<\/strong> and to gather feedback<\/strong> and ideas<\/strong> directly from the members of the working group<\/strong> made the project dynamic and the result satisfying for all parties involved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
