In this article, we share our experience in answering it.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Business intelligence: your ally for data analysis<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Business intelligence<\/strong>\u00a0is the set of processes and tools for\u00a0<strong>analysing company data<\/strong>, enabling us to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>add value to the data that matters;<\/li>\n<li>make data accessible to all those who need to make informed decisions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the early 2000s, we had little information about business performance, and the reports we could generate were simple and static. Today, the situation has been completely reversed \u2013 the problem is now exactly the opposite.<\/p>\n<p>We have several data entry points and the ability to integrate them from third-party systems, but <strong>analytical tools<\/strong> are not always within reach for every organisation, due to licensing or implementation and integration costs.<\/p>\n<p>So, when there is a need to keep some control over the data, <strong>Excel<\/strong> becomes an indispensable tool. This has led to the <strong>proliferation<\/strong> <strong>of unmanageable spreadsheets<\/strong>, where human errors are difficult to detect except by a specialist.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Analysis tool: dedicated or integrated?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In such a complex context, with several factors to analyse, adopting a <strong>dedicated tool<\/strong> therefore seems to be the only viable choice. However, in addition to its costs, this solution introduces into the company ecosystem complexities arising from:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an effective <strong>integration<\/strong> system;<\/li>\n<li>flow <strong>monitoring<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>verification<\/strong> of the final result.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>And what if all of this were already part of a single Retail Management solution?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-76269\" src=\"https:\/\/aton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Banner-articoli-sito-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Banner-articoli-sito-3.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/aton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Banner-articoli-sito-3-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If we consider sales data, for example, we have information coming from the till system combined with offer and loyalty data. Today, all of this can be <strong>centralised<\/strong> and <strong>made available<\/strong> <strong>at head office<\/strong>, even for groups with numerous stores.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Having control over your company<\/strong> and being able to <strong>support your sales network<\/strong> \u2013 whether made up of directly operated or affiliated stores \u2013 has now become essential, especially in a fast-moving context where scenarios need to be analysed almost in real time (near real time).<\/p>\n<p>The people carrying out the analyses vary in role and level, and the depth of information can and should be filtered according to their position and responsibilities.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Cost is not always a simple matter<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>When we need to analyse the performance of a shop or a specific department, the movement of goods \u2013 to which a cost must be assigned \u2013 is one of the key aspects to take into consideration.<\/p>\n<p>In general, we can say that a sales line is assigned a <strong>cost based on agreed criteria<\/strong>, such as the last purchase cost or a weighted average. This logic cannot be applied to <strong>processed products<\/strong>, where processing and transformation concepts <strong>complicate the attribution of a cost<\/strong>, and where ad hoc files created by department managers often proliferate in order to reach a result that is not always accurate.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s look at a very common situation: a company purchases a side of beef, which is then processed to obtain cuts and products \u2013 for example, minced meat. In many cases, the cost of these products is calculated outside company systems.<\/p>\n<p>Having <strong>a system that already applies rules and produces costs and a departmental balance sheet<\/strong> means providing reliable tools and data, leaving the authorised user to focus on analysis and action, rather than on gathering and processing information.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Next-generation tools: business intelligence and artificial intelligence<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>We are currently witnessing a <strong>generational shift in applications<\/strong>, <strong>with artificial intelligence<\/strong> helping to <strong>boost productivity<\/strong> and <strong>business intelligence also integrating this technology<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Very soon, this will make it possible to build <strong>dashboards and KPIs using natural language<\/strong>. You will be able to request, for example, \u201cshow me the performance of stores in Veneto over the last 30 days compared with the previous year\u201d or \u201cshow me the margin by product category for the fresh produce department during the latest promotion\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>These are just a few examples of how <strong>natural language interpretation will simplify interaction with data<\/strong>.
