{"id":38680,"date":"2019-12-06T16:12:53","date_gmt":"2019-12-06T15:12:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aton.com\/?p=38680"},"modified":"2023-11-29T15:03:21","modified_gmt":"2023-11-29T14:03:21","slug":"computer-vision-and-augmented-reality-retail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aton.com\/en\/computer-vision-and-augmented-reality-retail\/","title":{"rendered":"Computer Vision and Augmented Reality in Retail"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Computer vision and augmented reality: sometimes it pays to look at the world through a screen<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Watching the world through a screen sometimes pays:\u00a0<b>vision systems\u00a0<\/b>or Computer Vision (CV)\u00a0in combination with <b>Augmented Reality<\/b> (AR)\u00a0are finding interesting application in retail environments.<\/p>\n<p>Vision systems allow real-time interpretation of the image a smartphone or other devices (e.g. the palmtop used for store activity management) is framing, thanks to the possibility of recognizing a certain type of object, shape (e.g. a barcode or QR code) or text (the price on a label). This is true not just for one object at a time, like our brain could do, but simultaneously for tens of items inside our visual field.<\/p>\n<p>Augmented Reality systems allow <b>real-time overlapping<\/b> of <b>additional information<\/b>, precious for the user\u2019s activity, to the scene we are framing via smartphone or other devices.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What are we working on?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Two applicative examples we are working on are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>in store management environment:<\/b>\u00a0more efficient management of store operations, thanks to the possibility of framing display racks and carrying out fast inventories or verifying price correspondence of a set of products with the one indicated on the shelves, by simply focusing it and letting our app work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>in consumer environment:\u00a0<\/b>proposing final consumers captivating digital experiences, like for example controlling food composition or visualizing online reviews for a given product, by simply framing it<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Computer vision and augmented reality: sometimes it pays to look at the world through a screen Watching the world through a screen sometimes pays:\u00a0vision systems\u00a0or Computer Vision (CV)\u00a0in combination with Augmented Reality (AR)\u00a0are finding interesting application in retail environments.
